Beko Award Night

The Beko Club Champion award, run in partnership with Leinster GAA, recognizes individuals within local GAA clubs who demonstrate exceptional dedication and commitment to their club and community. It aims to celebrate the hard work of volunteers and reward those who go above and beyond. Each county winner receives €1,000 worth of O'Neills training equipment for their club.

In 2021, Tom Cahill was awarded the 'Beko Club Champion of the Year'. It was Liam Lalor who entered the essay on behalf of Tom into the competition that secured the award. Unfortunately the award was received during the Covid Lock-down, meaning no celebration could be organized properly. However, years later when the lock-down was lifted and everything was back to normal in the world, it was decided it was time to throw a long overdue celebration night for Tom.

The night was held on the 9th of November in Whelans Ballyroan. It was a successful event packed full of content. We were treated to guest speakers from the 1966 Ballyroan team Seamus and Eamonn Mulhall, from the 1971 Colt team John Galvin and George Dalton, from the Ballypickas Drama group PJ Cahill, and Margaret Cocoman and three Championship winning Ballypickas managers John Cleary, Kieran Savage and Liam Lalor. It was more than just an award night. It was a celebration of a man's life. It was for sure a tribute night to Tom Cahill. Tom enjoyed the event and fairplay to him for winning the award. Hard work does pay off.

Thanks to Jim Whelan for hosting us. Thanks to Liam Lalor for entering the Beko competition. Thanks to all the guest speakers on the night! Thanks to everyone that got up and sang a song! Thanks to Paddy McWey for interviewing! Thanks to Cora for the amplification. Thanks to John O'Dea for orchestrating the event! And thanks to everyone that attended.

The video of the event is below so take a look whenever you get the time.
